Edison High School Class of 1965 - Latest News

06-03-2005 - Next Meeting Scheduled – July 12, 2005 / Last Meeting News

Next Meeting:
When:
Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at 7:00 P.M.
Where: Jane Dickey Johnson's home - 4520 S. Florence Ave.
(Go west on 47th St. from Harvard, turn south on Florence from 47th -
Jane's home is on the left at the end of the deadend.)

We had a very productive meeting at Diamond Jack's on June 2, 2005. Those attending were: Gayle Rippy Campbell, Dee Anne Potter Short, Linda Riggs Boyd, Jim Barnes, Jack Wimbish, Ben & Kathy (Bentley) Gorrell, Ginny Dunn Furr, and Larry Zankel.
Kathy, Dee Anne and Ginny have arranged for us to have an additional room at Post Oak for our activities, at no extra charge. We will have large screen TVs set up for the OU &/or OSU football games that weekend, depending on game times.
Dee Anne is formulating some really cute decorating ideas that will tie in with our theme of 'Weekend at Camp Eagle'. Linda has hired an excellent DJ and Archie Harrison will be meeting with him for more specific music selection and some fun stuff with tunes of the 60's.
Jim brought menu selections for the meals at Post Oak and those choices were finalized. In addition, we will be having Saturday's lunch in the Edison Cafeteria...bean chowder and cinnamon rolls. Cost of registration includes a 'camp/picnic' type meal of hot dogs, hamburger and usual side-dishes at Post Oak, the Saturday lunch at Edison, and a very nice buffet-style dinner Saturday night. Coffee, tea, water are included. There will be a cash bar run by Post Oak staff for soft drinks, beer, and mixed drinks.
Choices were made regarding name tags, contents for the registration packets, gift to Edison from our class, plus we also discussed a photographer for 'party pix' and group photos, transportation for classmates who are flying into Tulsa but not planning to have rental cars, and the planned assembly at Edison on Saturday.
Our group in Okla. City, headed by Martha White Jett, has agreed to do the assembly. Our next meeting has been scheduled on a Saturday afternoon (Note: this has been changed to Tuesday, July 12 at 7:00 P.M. at Jane Dickey Johnson's - see above for address) in hopes that our Okla. City people will be able to attend so we can finalize the assembly program.
Planned activities at Edison include the assembly with a performance by the Edison Jazz Band, lunch in the cafeteria (we're inviting some of the teachers to join us), and a tour of the school. Gayle is a teacher at Edison and has been a great 'inside contact'.
All of the above was discussed in context with a proposed budget. So, have you ever tried to plan a really big party and invited lots of people to come and knew most of them would...but you weren't totally sure because they were slow in sending in their RSVP confirmations?? That's kind of where we are now. We've invited all of you to come, many of you have said you intend to, but you still haven't gotten around to sending in that 'RSVP confirmation' (in our case, that means CHECK). Please help us in our planning by sending in your registration forms and checks as quickly as possible. It's one of those 'details' we need to 'nail down'.
There are many people who have done a great deal of work in the planning of this reunion, some of whom are: Ben & Kathy Gorrell, Marian Eskridge Sexton, Mike Bickel, Jack Wimbish, Jim Barnes, Dee Anne Potter Short, Gayle Rippy Campbell, Jane Dickey Johnson, Ginny Dunn Furr, Lady Rich Brown, Martha White Jett, Archie Harrison, Bruce O'Connor, Jamie Gill and Larry Miner. My apologies to those in Okla. City...I do not know everyone who is helping Martha work on the assembly plans.
Things are looking good and we are excited as we enter the final 90-day 'countdown'. We could still use some extra people on some of the sub-committees and we encourage you to attend our next meeting. Everyone is welcome.
Kathy has composed and printed a mailing which I will be getting to the Post Office within the next several days. Thank you for your continued interest in making our 40-year reunion a success.

Blessings,
Linda Riggs Boyd
