Edison High School Class of 1965 - Latest News

08-03-2005 - News from July 28, 2005 Reunion Planning Meeting

Sorry it took me nearly a week to get this posted. We had a terrific turnout for our July 28 meeting: Jim Barnes, Kent Dunbar, Larry Zankel, John Thompson (& wife Annette), Fred Mitchell, Cheryl Sanders Parker, Kay Roby Romero, Kathy Bentley Gorrell, Lady Rich Brown (& hubby Larry), Emily Rose Renberg, Jane Dickey Johnson, Jack Wimbish, DeeAnne Potter Short, Marian Eskridge Sexton, Gayle Rippy Campbell, Bruce O'Connor, Earl and Janie Ford Funk, Kent Dunbar and myself.

We've received several inquiries from people who are only able to attend on Friday the 1st, so we discussed a price breakdown. We agreed to charge $35.00/person for those who can attend only on Friday. However, since the primary expense is involved with Saturday's activities, we also agreed that those able to attend on Saturday only will still be charged the full $75.00/person. We also agreed that we are unable to 'comp' anyone's registration fee for either 'services rendered' or 'financial hardship'....rest assured that we are generous, loving people.....but this is an area in which it would be incredibly difficult to draw a line on who qualifies for such comps. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to anyone and hope you can understand.

Now, having said that......we are really getting excited! Dee Anne Potter Short and her gang will have the place decorated and we'll have a memorabilia room and video/dvd continuous presentations from our last reunions.

Plans for Friday night call for registration to begin at 5:00p.m. at Post Oak Lodge. 'Happy Hour' at our cash bar also begins at 5:00. We'll begin serving our Backyard Bar-B-Q Buffet with all the trimmin's at 6:30p.m., serving until 8:00. Our DJ will begin spinnin' those old tunes about 5:00ish and will continue throughout the evening. We'll do a 'Name that Tune' game that Archie Harrison, Jamey Gill and Bruce O'Connor are putting together with our DJ. Then there's music, dancing and fellowship until 11:00, at which time the DJ packs up, the cash bar closes down and we say good-night.....and we will have 'designated drivers' on hand should anyone feel they need one.

Saturday morning begins with breakfast (for those who are lodging at Post Oak). Then, at noon, we will all meet at Edison High School (now called Edison Preparatory Academy). Anyone from out of town who's staying at Post Oak and does not have a rental car will be provided a ride from Post Oak to Edison and back. At the school, we will have lunch in the cafeteria (brown bean chowder and cinnamon rolls)....some of our teachers will join us (but I don't have specific names at this date). After lunch, we go to the auditorium where we will have an Assembly that will also include a performance by the Edison Jazz Band. When the Assembly is over, we'll take a tour of the school which has been through some major renovations since most of us last walked those halls.

We'll meet back at Post Oak Lodge at 5:00p.m. Saturday evening. We will have a photographer available for doing several group pictures of elementary school groups, junior high groups, and everyone there. Those group pictures will be available for purchase and will be ready by the end of the evening. We'll again have 'Happy Hour' and our cash bar will remain open until midnight. Our lovely banquet buffet dinner will be served from 6:30-8:30p.m. Our DJ will also return to provide music throughout the evening.....and we will have a mini-concert by our own Lloyd Barron! Jack Wimbish has some 'fun stuff' up his sleeve, too....one never knows quite what Jack's witty mind will put together for us. The evening will end at midnight, again with drivers available for those who might need it.

We deliberately did not schedule anything for Sunday, hoping you will take advantage of the day to have your own mini-reunions with special friends. There are various sights to see in the Tulsa area, just a few of which are Gilcrease Museum (free tours available), the Tulsa Zoo, and the fabulous new Aquarium in Jenks (in its 2nd year and quite excellent).

We've also had some inquiries on 'What should I wear?' (women seem more concerned about this than the men). We intend for this entire event to be CASUAL, so please come comfortable and casual. Remember - it will still be summer in Oklahoma - and, of course, that probably means HOT!

And, one last thing: For some of you, this will be the first reunion you're attending or even considering attending. For others, you've been to 1 or 2 but, hey, we've all changed a lot since the last one! Some of you may wonder if anyone will remember you. I can assure you that Marian, Ginny, Mike and I have read all your names so many times in the last 15 months or so that, even if we didn't know you in high school, we DO now!! Some may be wondering if anyone has gained as much weight as you have.....well, let's just say that 'vanity' and I parted company about 100 lbs. ago. So, that pretty much leaves you with NO EXCUSES. The only thing left is for you to SEND IN YOUR REGISTRATION if you haven't already. COME to the Reunion, RELAX, and have a REALLY GOOD TIME!!

See you there!

Blessings,
Linda Riggs Boyd
